Clean, Monochromatic Makeup

Hi everyone!! It has been foreverrrrrr since I did any blogging but I am super excited to start sharing my tips and techniques with you guys again!! So let’s get right into it…

One of my favorite makeup looks ever is just clean, monochromatic makeup. It makes everyone look fresh and pretty and is so easy to achieve. Below are my tips for replicating this gorgeous look.

1. Start with beautiful skin

When doing a clean makeup look, your skin takes center stage. So nothing is more important than prepping your skin before you put a drop of makeup on it. I love applying a mask before bed - I love Borghese Fango Active Mud for Face and Body- and then I’ll follow up with some rosewater spray and a facial oil (ActivAroma Lavender Neroli Argan Oil is my fav and is great on my sensitive, acne prone skin). I always wake up with dewy, glowing skin when I do this. Then in the morning, I use a cleansing water like the one from KohGenDo to rinse off my skin, spritz with my rosewater again and apply a great moisturizer such as Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre. Doing this will already make your skin look supple and healthy and you will need much less makeup.

2. Less is more when it comes to foundation

Nothing is prettier than fresh, glowing skin that looks like just that- skin!! No need for heavy foundation that masks all of your natural radiance. And forget about all that gross contouring that makes you look like you’re wearing a mask. Use a tinted moisturizer- Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer is one of my favs and gives you an extra bit of glow to the skin. Then use a concealer on areas that you need more coverage- such as under your eyes and on any blemishes. Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer is my go-to for this- it’s super pigmented and has a wonderful creamy texture.

3. Brush up those brows

Bushy, natural brows are all the rage and all you need is a bit of brow gel to brush those brows upward. If you were a 90s child like myself and plucked the crap out of them, you will need a tad more help and can use a slim pencil like Anastasia’s Brow Wiz to lightly fill in your sparse areas. Stay away from overly done, painted on brows which will totally take away from the effortless vibe of this look.

4. Use all cream products in similar hues on eyes, cheeks, and lips

I love using cream eyeshadows on the lids because it looks like it’s part of your skin. I love using warm browns, taupes or mauves for this. I’m OBSESSED with OCC Creme Colour Concentrate and use it all of the time for a gorgeous wash of color on the lids. Trick, Newt, and Miriam are my favorite colors. I then take a cream blush in a similar hue and apply it on the apples of the cheeks. I will usually use the exact same color I used on the cheeks and apply it on the lips for a perfect monochromatic look. I am a huge fan of Stila Convertible Color, it is so creamy and blends flawlessly into the skin. I finish up the look by applying a cream highlighter on the tops of cheekbones and in the inner corners of eyes to give you an extra added glow to the skin. RMS Beauty Living Luminizer is my go-to for this.

5. Curl lashes and apply a few coats of mascara

Thick, defined lashes always complete a look. No need for falsies for this one- it’s all about looking like you took 5 minutes to get ready

Have fun and experiment with different hues to achieve this beautiful, effortless look!
